The Skrei is back!

23 Mar

Finally the Skrei has returned to the inner side of Lofoten and the fishermen and inhabitants of Henningsvær can sense that some of the feeling from “the old times” is back. It is easy to notice the good mood among the fishermen and the locals when you take a stroll along the quay. You can feel the smell of fish hanging on the drying racks – they say “it’s the smell of money”.

The stockfish is hanging on the drying racks from march to mid June and is then harvested for storage before export to, among other countries, Italy.

The spring is a nice period to visit Henningsvær. It is calm before the tourist season really starts. Take a trip to greet the stockfish, maybe try the seagull eggs, see the midnight sun or take a fishing trip – or why not do everything?

We can offer accommodation at a reasonable price.
